Jennifer Tharp

Dear Fellow Comal County Citizens,

I am proud to announce my campaign for re-election as your Comal County Criminal District Attorney and ask for your support in the March 2022 primary. With the help of talented attorneys, investigators, and support staff, I have accomplished tremendous work on your behalf. Having been a Comal County Prosecutor for almost 18 years and entering my eleventh year as your elected Criminal District Attorney, I can tell you with confidence that I am still the right person for this position.

Since joining the Comal County Criminal District Attorney’s Office in 2004, I have held a variety of positions including Chief Civil Prosecutor before becoming your Criminal District Attorney in 2011. Throughout my roles in the office, I worked tirelessly with Judges, Probation Departments, and School Officials to get children to attend school and to reduce drugs and violence within our schools.

Over my first three terms as your District Attorney, I have had the opportunity to speak with many of you at events throughout the county. The citizens of Comal County have consistently told me their priorities are safety for our children, safe roads, and a safe community.

Safety for Our Children

This community expects and wants our most vulnerable citizens, our children, to be safe. I have responded to this request by prioritizing the prosecution of child abusers and child molesters. I have sought and received tough sentences to ensure that convicted abusers will never again have the opportunity to harm another child. My office vigorously defends the convictions received from our judges and juries through the appeals process, and I have personally objected to the parole release of convicted child molesters. I am honored to be able to look a child in the eyes and promise they will not be harmed again because their abuser has been brought to justice.

During every Legislative Session, I both assisted with authoring and testified multiple times for greater protection for our youth through tougher laws for Cyber-bullying and stronger penalties for human traffickers. I have worked with our schools to educate students about the dangers of drinking and driving, drug use, criminal activity, texting while driving, and online activity. We have reached thousands of children every year with these important messages. We want to empower our students with knowledge to make good decisions.

Safe Roads

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) reports that a person dies in drunk driving crashes every 53 minutes and every 90 seconds a person is injured in a drunk driving crash. Together with law enforcement, I have worked to reduce these staggering statistics. We combined forces in May 2011 to go “No Refusal” during this county’s busiest summer season. As a result, we saw the number of alcohol related offenses reduced. We also noticed that drivers who consumed alcohol began utilizing taxi services. In September 2011, Comal County became a “No Refusal” county permanently. This commitment and protection has not wavered. I remain determined to continue my work with law enforcement to secure convictions for alcohol-related offenses and stiff punishments for repeat offenders.

Safe Community

During my time as your DA, I have met several of you at neighborhood block parties on National Night Out and at other events. I have encouraged you to get to know your neighbors and to report suspicious activity to law enforcement. I want you and your family to be safe in your home and throughout this community. To accomplish this, I have worked with local, state, and federal narcotics agencies to send numerous drug dealers to prison. On August 9, 2017, this cooperative effort lead to the arrest of 39 drug dealers and seizure of over 11 pounds of high grade crystal methamphetamine in the Canyon Lake area as part of Operation Crystal Lake. This operation sent a message throughout the County that narcotics trafficking will not be tolerated and this Operation continues. I have also worked with our local law enforcement agencies to remove dangerous gang members from our community through the creation of the G.O.N.E. (Gang Offender and Narcotics Enforcement) Unit in 2015. This Unit was a joint task force made up of members from the New Braunfels Police Department and the Comal County Sheriff’s Office and my office. Our work together has led to the identification and tracking of known criminal street gangs. These dangerous individuals are no longer able to conduct their criminal activities in secret and are being held accountable for the havoc they have wrecked on our community. I have also prosecuted thieves who have entered your vehicles and your homes. This year our community was awarded by the Governor’s Office grant funding for a Violence Against Women Team, Family Violence Protective Order Team, and Domestic Violence High Risk Team. Our county was selected because of the cooperative efforts between my office and law enforcement, as well as innovative best practices we utilize to combat and reduce domestic violence. Our work is saving lives and will become the model for the State of Texas.

When re-elected, I pledge to continue to lead my team to provide safety for our children, safe roads and a safe community. Outside of my work with law enforcement, I also serve on the boards for the Comal Cops for Kids Foundation, Children’s Advocacy Center of Comal County, Family Life Center, New Braunfels Youth Center, the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association, and the New Braunfels Christian Ministries Foundation. I am active with the New Braunfels Conservatives, the Canyon Lake Republican Women, Bulverde Spring Branch Conservatives, the Comal County Republican Club, the Comal County University, the Texas Council on Family Violence, the State Bar of Texas Criminal Law Committee, Leadership New Braunfels, Court Appointed Special Advocates (C.A.S.A.), the Braunfels Foundation and a member of Oakwood Baptist Church of New Braunfels.

I was raised in Comal County and my family has been active within this community for the past five decades. I love this community, and my husband Dan and I want to raise our sons with the same freedoms we had growing up in a safe community. I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve as your Criminal District Attorney, and I humbly ask for your vote and continued support in the March Republican Primary.

Thank you for your support.
